It's essentially a hair clip that's shaped like a spine, made with soft impact resistant material and stainless steel.

The model was designed with references to open source medical archives (Life Sciences Japan, BodyParts3D) that I found when I was studying kinesiology. The body material is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) 95A, a tough, impact-resistant, and flexible material that is often used in phone cases and boot soles. I often show people how tough it is by throwing it hard to the ground, it's tough. Due to the softer nature of the hair clip, it is recommended to first tie your hair with a hair tie (included) before wearing the hair clip.  All hardware is stainless steel for rust prevention and durability.

I designed the unique dual-axis mechanism with quad springs, which allows the side wings to move freely and exert even pressure on your hair without interfering the spinous processes in the back. This allows the hairclip to be used like any standard hair clip using the finger groove on the 4th vertebrae. Nearly everything is made in my studio, from the printing of the TPU to the hand-wound springs to the embossing of the packaging.
